DENVER – Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced Denver Outlaws goalie Jesse Schwartzman as Week 8’s Warrior Defensive Player of the Week on Monday in recognition of his performance in Denver’s win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks this past Saturday.
Schwartzman finished the night with 28 saves, a career-high for the veteran goalie and a feat that ranks second in team history for most saves in a single game. Schwartzman had an especially impressive first half in which he stopped all five first-quarter shots and then 9-of-10 shots in the second quarter. The two-time MLL Goalie of the Year honoree (2009, 2013) finished the team’s 9-6 win with an .824 save percentage (28-34) and leads the league in the goals against average (8.50) and save percentage (.663) categories.
This is the second time this season that Schwartzman has been named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3), and it marks the third time this season a Denver Outlaw has garnered the honor.
Schwartzman will suit up for Team USA this Thursday when they take on Team MLL for the 2014 All-Star Game. The game will be played at Harvard Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
The Outlaws (7-1) face the Rochester Rattlers (5-3) on the road this Sunday, June 29 at 1 p.m. ET before returning home for their highly anticipated annual Mile High Fourth of July game.
