DENVER -- Freedom rang from the hilltops 236 years ago when the United States declared independence from Great Britain, but on Wednesday night, Denver area lacrosse fans had the liberty of seeing the Denver Outlaws beat the Ohio Machine 17-12.

The hot and hazy air surrounding the Denver metroplex didn't keep fans away. The Outlaws set a professional outdoor lacrosse attendance record with 30,128 fans pouring through the gates at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Before fans were treated to the city's only post-game fireworks show, the Outlaws found the back of the net 10 times in the first half. Things slowed for the team a little in the second half, but attackman Chris Bocklet contributed two goals and attackman Colin Briggs added another goal in the final minutes to seal the Outlaws sixth win of the season.

Defenseman Dillon Roy was the light to the big scoring outburst in the first half. Prior to him entering the game, the Outlaws had lost six faceoffs in a row. Upon his arrival onto the field, the Outlaws won four faceoffs in a row and scored off of three of them.

Stepping up on offense for the Outlaws were Chris Bocklet who had four goals and Peet Pollion who contributed a hat-trick.

The big story, however, came with one minute left in the game. That's when the Outlaws put their colors on the back-burner and propeled America's colors onto the field. The Outlaws made a switch at goalie, inserting backup goalie Adam Fullerton into the game. Fullerton has not played in an MLL game in over a year because he was serving overseas in Afghanistan. Fullerton had his first save of the season, and the Outlaws sit in third place in MLL standings at 6-3.
