DENVER — The Denver Outlaws have acquired midfielder Peet Poillon, who registered the MLL’s third-leading point total last season, in exchange for attacker Dan Hardy, the team announced on Tuesday.
Poillon tied for third in the league with 24 goals, including two 2-pointers, and ranked fourth with 15 assists, finishing with 41 total points in 2010. He tied for third in the MLL with four power-play scores and finished second with six power-play assists. Poillon earned All-MLL honors and was named the MLL's Most Improved Player of the Year. He was named to the All Star team for the first time in his career last season. A third-year player, Poillon has totaled 31 goals with 15 assists in 14 career games.
“Peet adds some offensive firepower to the team,” Outlaws General Manager Brian Reese said. “He was the third-leading point producer in the MLL last season, and he brings championship experience to the team. Peet is an extremely hard worker and will fit in well with the players we have on the team.”
“Peet Poillon is an amazing talent and will be in the MLL for many years,” Bayhawks General Manager Spencer Ford added. “He shoots the ball as well as any player in the game, and he is a very good feeder as well. We will miss him and wish him luck in Denver. Denver has gained a very good player and a better person.”
Poillon played two seasons at Howard Community College in Columbia, Md., where he earned NJCAA All-American honors both years, before transferring to Ohio State. As a junior for the Buckeyes, he earned honorable mention All-American honors after netting 32 goals. He then transferred to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County for his final season, in which totaled a team-best 47 points (26 G, 21 A). He was drafted by Boston with the 20th overall selection in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft. After the Cannons waived Poillon in 2009, the Bayhawks claimed him off waivers. He played two games for the Bayhawks in 2009, scoring seven goals - including a game-winner against the Cannons with just 3.5 seconds left on the clock. He earned the MLL Rookie of the Week award following each of his two appearances as a rookie. Peet Poillon attended Seneca Valley High School in Harmony, Pa., and was born on May 21, 1987 in Cranberry Township, Pa.
Hardy scored 23 goals, including one 2-pointer, with 22 assists (46 pts.) in 20 games with the Outlaws. The 2009 MLL Rookie of the Year, Hardy is entering his third MLL season in 2011.
